Meet the UK & Ireland team
In the UK, SomnoMed is making a unique investment in an initiative to increase NHS awareness about the effectiveness of oral device treatment in the right patient population. In addition, the NICE (National Institute for health and Care Excellence) guidelines for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnoea published on 20th August 2021, recommends bespoke dentally fitted devices as an effective alternative to CPAP for NHS patients.
The company is also helping to increase the collaboration between dentists and doctors, which will improve the sleep health of patients suffering from obstructive sleep apnoea.

Katie Simpson

My first job after qualifying as a nurse was in operating theatres where I stayed both in the NHS & private sector for 20 years. I then made the momentous decision to change my career to surgical sales where I had a very successful and enjoyable time teaching ENT surgeons how to perform soft tissue dissection and reduction with the latest radiofrequency technology. From there I went on to work with ENT surgeons who had an interest in Snoring and Sleep Apnoea, this is where I learned more about Sleep related breathing disorders and selling devices, from sleep diagnostics to CPAP.
I have been working for SomnoMed UK since January 2015, educating everyone with a vested interest in the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea about the benefits of providing SomnoDent devices as a treatment. I am happy to advise, educate and inform anyone interested in knowing more about OSA and the treatments available.

I joined my colleague Katie at SomnoMed in October 2019. I have worked with Katie in the past and we have been good friends for over 10 years so I knew it would be fun and rewarding to work together again. With the addition of Debbie, we now make a great team.
In the short time I have been with SomnoMed I have learned a huge amount about sleep disordered breathing, the extensive list of comorbidities and the costs to the NHS and society of undiagnosed and untreated Sleep Apnoea. I was shocked that, in the main, NHS sleep services are only able to offer one treatment option to patients for this serious medical condition. It is undeniable that CPAP is an effective treatment, so if you can wear it every night then that is great, stick with it, but I guess then you wouldn’t be looking at our website! If you are visiting our website because you don’t get on with CPAP, you are not alone. Research proves that many people, around 50%, are just not able to use it. But what happens next? The days of going to the chemist or the internet for an inferior, unfitted, uncomfortable oral device are over. Monoblocks, semi-bespoke and boil and bite devices are unacceptable.
The soon to be published NICE guidelines clearly state that the only acceptable alternative treatment for OSA is a bespoke, adjustable, dentally fitted medical device. SomnoMed’s devices fit that description perfectly, so what are you waiting for?!

I joined the UK & Ireland team at SomnoMed in January 2020, as their first Marketing Manager. I primarily deal with the promotional tasks vital to us taking things forward in the SomnoMed world of sleep.
My background is in sales, marketing and event management, with previous roles within private healthcare. I jumped from marketing private cancer screening services, to marketing Mandibular Advancement Devices! The message, however, is a similar one in that we should all be taking control of our own health, if we have a problem, get it diagnosed and get treated.
I now proudly promote the high quality and design of the SomnoDent device as a clinically validated and viable solution for patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnoea and hope to spread the word in the hope of helping them to enjoy normal lives again.
